The town of San Teodoro is set in the enchanting territory of the "Isola di Tavolara" Marine Park, characterised by its 32 km of coastline with wonderful beaches of fine white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
Its location in a protected park means that the environment which surrounds it is particularly well preserved, with stretches of it in its original wild state, an area of great interest to nature enthusiasts.
The beaches of Lu Impostu, Puntaldia and Cala Brandinchi are among the most famous in the area and the closest to our holiday homes.
Lu Impostu and its twin beach Cala Brandinchi are among the most renowned in all of Tavolara Island Marine Park. Characterised by incredibly clear waters which look like brushstrokes of colour on the fine white sand, it is part of an unspoilt natural landscape which takes every visitor’s breath away: encircling this 1 km-long beach we find in fact a colourful vegetation consisting of mimosa trees, marine thistles and wild lilies, as well as some ponds and beautiful sand dunes.
Despite its wild and unspoiled environment, the beach still offers several services like refreshment points, umbrella and boat rentals, a car park and access for people with disabilities. The shallow and sandy waters are also ideal for children and elderly people.
Cala Brandinchi, also known as "the little Tahiti", will surprise travellers with its wonderful vegetation, the transparency of its waters and its fine white beach. Its splendid colours remind visitors of unspoiled Caribbean landscapes, uniting in an unusual way with Mediterranean vegetation and the fauna living in the nearby pond, a favourite destination for birdwatchers who find specimens of herons, pink flamingos and black-winged stilts here.
There are also several services for tourists including the hire of sunbeds, umbrellas, canoes and dinghies.
The beach of Puntaldia and the Calette delle Lucine (Bays of Lights) constitute the last stretch of the La Cinta beach, the most famous of San Teodoro, and are recommended destinations especially when there are Tramontane or Mistral winds as they are surrounded by the juniper shrubs and granite rocks which are typical of Gallura. Both are small beaches with white sand and clear, turquoise waters bordered by a fragrant Mediterranean scrubland, formed mainly of rushes, thistles and junipers.
Punta Est (or East Point) is located in Capo Coda Cavallo. Surrounded by dense vegetation, it surprises the eye with the contrast between the whiteness of the sand, the turquoise of the waters and the green of the Mediterranean scrubland. It has shallow waters, also suitable for children, and there is parking available, as well as refreshment points and various other services.
The beach of Coda Cavallo actually consists of a small beach connected to a long strip of sand on which there are numerous refreshment points. Its shape, which resembles the tail of a horse ("cavallo" in Italian), gives its name to the whole peninsula. The sand is large and grainy, but the colour of the sea makes this place unique, as does the peculiarity of being sheltered from the winds.
The island of Tavolara is located in front of Porto San Paolo, around 10 minutes' drive away. It is a real limestone mountain that looms at a height of 560 metres, and it is part of the Protected Natural Marine Area of Tavolara and Punta Coda Cavallo. Unspoilt landscapes and wild nature characterise this island which you can visit in various ways and which offers several beautiful beaches in the strip of land called Spalmatore di Terra, wonderful ocean floors for snorkelling and scuba diving, a marina and two traditional restaurants.
Not far from Tavolara, located in the marine protected area, we also find the island of Molara, which is privately owned and not open to visitors. The island is mainly rocky, but covered by a rich maquis vegetation, and inhabited by cows, goats and different species of seabirds. In the south-western part of the island we strongly recommend you visit the "Piscine di Molara", a mirror of water bordered by rocks and characterised by whitest beaches and turquoise waters. There are several ways to get there by boat and visit the island with permits; we will be happy to give you all the information you need on your arrival.
The beach of Cala Girgolu is located in Loiri Porto San Paolo. It is a long shore of white sand, also ideal for children thanks to the shallow waters, behind which is the small pond of Ghjlgòlu, frequented by numerous species of birds. Throughout this stretch of coast we find numerous pink granite rocks which have taken on many different forms over time due to wind erosion, such as the famous Turtle.
In addition to these beaches, you should also visit:
San Teodoro is also famous for its exciting nightlife and for the countless activities which you can take part in in its surroundings (diving, horse riding, golf, airfield, etc.).
Among the unmissable events, every year in July the Tavolara Film Festival is held, an event which is now firmly established with Italian cinema of all kinds and a space dedicated to regional productions. This Festival, now famous nationwide, includes numerous screenings in different areas between San Teodoro and Porto San Paolo, some of which are very close to our apartments (for example the ones which take place in Sa Pischera), which make them the perfect location for film fans.
